My G Grandfather Thomas Rothery
Welcome to the Rothery Family History Site.
My Grandmother was Melvena Vivienne Rothery, born 1938, in Layer De La Haye, Colchester, Essex.
My Grandmother, or Nana as we called her, and her three siblings, Edith, Vera and Angel were the children of Thomas and Emily.
Thomas and Emily were always an enigma to us, as Emily died when my Nana was 9 and Thomas when she was 13.
The Rothery's were reputed to have been Irish, and for the last three years I hunted them, and did not find them.
However, one day, whilst browsing the 1901 census, I came across a Thomas Rothery born the year my G Grandfather was, in County Durham.
Although my Nana had been born in Colchester, her siblings had all been born in Durham.
After sending for his marriage Certificate, I discovered that the Thomas on the 1901 Census, was my G Grandfather.
I traced back his family to Whitehaven, Cumberland...(no Irish!)
I have managed to bring down a family brick wall that has been intact for many years.
My Nana died in 1991, aged only 52, and non of her siblings are alive.
This site is a dedication to all of them.
To a Wonderful Nana.

Nana, I pieced it all together, this is for you.

I love you,

Colleen
